Wolley HouseDespite beginning the final day in sixth po sition after Standard Trials , Wooley House, better known as ‘ H’ House, made a dramatic comeback to claim their fifth consecutive ti tle at the Queen’s College ( QC) Inter House Athletic Championships yesterday at the QC ground.
H House ( dark green), known for their prowess on the track over the years, ended the day with an impressive 465 points even though they were trailing at the lunch break. Placing second was Nobbs ( L) House ( gold), who won the march past, with 405 points, followed by Raleigh ( B) House ( royal blue) with 360 points, Austin ( C) House ( emerald green) with 328 points and Pilgrim ( E) House ( purple) with 323 points rounded up the top five.
This seemingly impossible come- from- behind feat morphed to an actuality as national under 16 400m record holder Carlwyn Collins suited up to complete his sprint double and assure his team 20 points.

Collins motivated his team by capturing a convincing victory in the 200m Male open in 23.03 seconds after gearing down at the line. The convalescing athlete, who suffers from a recurring hamstring injury, which eventually kept him out of the relays, returned to claim an even more impressive victory in the 400m, his pet event. Coincidentally, the H House winning streak began when Collins entered the institution.

Speaking with Guyana Times Sport after the event, Collins confessed that although it was not his best performance consider ing his present fitness, he wanted to give his best effort since it may be his last year. Currently in Lower Sixth, Collins, who attained five Grade Ones and five Grade Two passes at the 2009 CSEC examination, said that he is assiduously pursuing an athletics scholarship to further his career in the USA. Another national athlete that honed his talent at QC, Devon Seeram, could not be contained in the under 16 sprint events, winning the 100m, 200, and 400m. Upper Six student Joshua Griffith claimed dominance over the middle distance events with victories in the 1500m and 800m. Larrisa Wiltshire, who represented the country in table tennis and squash took her athletics talent to the track to sweep the girls under 12 category, winning the 100m, 200, 400m and the 1000m. Apart from those four individual victories, Wiltshire beefed up the L House team in all of their divisional relays. Former Christ Church student Kim Chan who is now pursuing her A- Levels at QC, also sauntered to victories in the girls’ 100m and 200m but crashed out with injury in the girls 400m to place a disappointing fourth. Fourth form student Davendra Kissoon of L House upset the field to win the longest event of the day, the boys’ 5000m in 20: 36s.
