QC ‘old boy’ called to Bar of England Print E-mail

Charles RamsonQueen’s College ‘old boy’ Charles S Ramson was recently admitted as a barrister-at-law of the Honourable Society of Lincoln’s Inn (London) for the Bar of England and Wales.
According to a press release, Ramson is the son of Justice of Appeal Charles R. Ramson, SC, and Chairperson of the Teaching Service Commission Leila Ramson. The call to the Bar ceremony was held on July 29 and attended by his mother and sister Shakhti.
Ramson obtained a “Very Competent” grade certificate – an assessment of 70% from Nottingham Law School. In 2006, he obtained a First Class Honours degree in Law at the University of Buckingham and is only the second or third Guyanese ever to have achieved such distinction in law at a UK university.

Ramson was awarded the Intellectual Property Prize and the Merit Prize for “good all-round performance academically and who has also made an important contribution to the life of the University,” the release said. He also completed his Masters in International and Commercial Law at the University of Buckingham which he attended on partial scholarship.

During his course of study, Ramson was elected President of the Students Union and Secretary of the International Society. He was also the Student Assistant Editor of the Denning Law Journal, a member of the Economist Club, Captain of the university’s cricket team, a member of the Law School’s basketball team and he played regularly for Buck-ingham Town’s First Division Cricket team. The release also said that Ramson played in the Cheddi Jagan Memorial for four successive years.
